Wikis > Solutions-pedia > BEST PRICE INSURANCE FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS

Virtually all insurers require the use of a broker for a school board to procure a price quote and coverage details. These brokers are often compensated by the insurance broker, creating a conflict of interest when the broker should be working on behalf of the municipality to obtain the most appropriate coverage. Furthermore, the compensation given to the brokers is often reflected in higher costs to the municipality. The Best Price Insurance resolution would require brokers to be compensated solely by the school board, creating a more transparent and competitive market for these services. This will ensure that municipalities are able to get the best coverage available to them for the best price possible.

How to establish a Best Price Insurance Policy in your school district:

Step 1: LEARN. Watch our Citizen Legislator Lesson and download our Citizen Legislator Participation Guide.

Step 2: PREPARE. Get  ready for your presentation by downloading our Best Price Insurance Presentation Kit, which includes a sample OPRA Request,  sample Presentation Statement, and an Advisory Policy Memo. And make sure to reach out and build support through friends, family, social media, and local media!

Step 3: PRESENT. Download the Model Resolution and make an official presentation to your local governing body.

Step 4: FOLLOW UP! Officials have a lot on their plates, so it’s up to you to follow-up and make sure your proposal doesn’t get lost in the shuffle! Attend council meetings, email, and call officials if you don’t get an adequate response (but always be respectful!). And if you continue to hit roadblocks? Request a coach from The Citizens Campaign to help you out.
