Members of the Perth Amboy Civic Trust presented their Citizen-driven Neighborhood Improvement proposals at this week’s Perth Amboy City Council session. The package of policies – Quality of Life Maintenance Survey, Socially Responsible Banking Ordinance, and Tree Donation Ordinance – provides concrete ways for residents to help their neighborhoods improve their property values and recover from the wave of foreclosures and abandoned properties triggered by the Great Recession. The package was developed by the Perth Amboy Civic Trust with assistance from experts on the Law & Policy Task Force of the Citizens Campaign.
The presentations were given by Perth Amboy Civic Trustees Lionel Giron, Manuel “Manny” Seda, Jesus Ramos, and Melina Garcia. The Council responded with praise for the Trustees’ proposal and agreed to work with them toward their implementation. Similar presentations are being made to the City Councils by Civic Trustees in Newark and Trenton.
