Ten Community Colleges to be Selected to Host Model Citizen Leadership Centers: Extension to March 15th

The application period has been extended from January 15th to March 15th for community colleges which would like to be selected to host model Citizen Leadership Centers. Ten community colleges around the nation will be selected in this initial round.

Citizen Leadership Centers are designed to train students in pragmatic problem-solving and provide opportunities for them to put their training to use as emerging leaders working toward bettering their communities and country.  They contain three (3) core components: (1) offering Power Civics citizen leadership training in one or more undergraduate courses; (2) offering Power Civics citizen leadership training to the broader community in one or more continuing education courses; and (3) hosting a Civic Trust on campus, where those who have completed the citizen leadership training serve for terms of one to three years working together in No-Blame Problem Solving sessions to find cost-effective, evidence based solutions.

Power Civics introduces students to the power levers of local government, a proven No-Blame Problem Solving method developed by ‘successful practitioners’ in local and state government, and accessible opportunities to put this knowledge to work as non-partisan Civic Trustees.  Online videos, course materials and the text, Citizen Power, published by Rutgers University Press will be provided to the colleges selected.

Colleges will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of Rogers Smith, Christopher H. Browne Distinguished Professor of Political Science, University of Pennsylvania, & Former President, American Political Science Association; Erin Richards, Senior II Tenured Political Science Faculty, Cascadia College; Bart Oates, President, NFL Alumni Association; Dr. Kenneth E. Hartman, Founder, Our Community Salutes & former President, Drexel University Online; Dr. Aaron Fichtner, President, New Jersey Council of County Colleges; and Harry Poyzki, Founder, The Citizens Campaign.
